Higher Level Skills project

Training solutions for your business

We are dedicated to working with senior managers to integrate higher level skills into their training strategies to help improve the performance of their business or organisation.

The SW Regional Development Agency is prioritising strategies to strengthen the regional economy through developing existing workforce skills. This unique service has therefore been made available to enable the region’s businesses to incorporate university level training into their workforce development:

  • Free training needs analysis delivered through a network of intermediaries working between local businesses and appropriate universities and further education colleges in the region
  • You tell us about your business - its goals and growth potential - and we will help you determine how higher level training would benefit you and your business now and into the future
  • We will liaise with the training providers to deliver tailor made, cost effective university-level training solutions
  • This may include the opportunity to apply for development funds to enable specific innovative projects to be undertaken

Examples of recent successful collaboration between the university and business through this project include:

  • The University of Plymouth Business School and Partner College Faculty (UPC) are working with Flybe to create a Foundation Degree in Airside Operations, encompassing their existing “in House” provision. This will be delivered in conjunction with the planned Flybe Training Academy at Exeter Airport

  • UPC via Duchy College is responding to the technical management needs of several food and drink manufacturers with a 60 credit “Mini Award” comprising 3 bite-sized blended learning modules capable of company specific flexible delivery

  • The university’s Centre of Leadership and Organizational Excellence (CLOE) is providing Algram Group Ltd a bespoke “in house” leadership development programme. Algram’s Managing Director quotes "The Intermediary service was introduced to us at a crucial time. To remain in a highly competitive market place we knew we needed to equip our managers with the leadership skills necessary to drive the business forward. The Intermediary service helped to signpost us to a provider that is developing a programme tailored to our needs and we are now keen to see how this will impact positively on our competitive advantage" .

  • Plymouth Business School and City College Plymouth will deliver 10 credit project management modules at HE level 1 and HE level 4 for Plymouth City Council, as short courses delivered on the client’s premises
